CHARLOTTE,NC–Fighting the stigma against treatment for mental health issues.
That’s the goal of volunteers who honored World Mental Health Day by talking with people about services provided by Mecklenburg county.
Organizers with Mecklenburg county behavioral health say too many people are afraid to get help because they’re embarrassed or worried about being judged.
Outreach coordinator, Natasha Gonzalez, “One in four adults suffer with mental illness, it could be me, it could be you, and there is no shame in getting help, being in recovery and promoting that,” says Gonzalez.
Mecklenburg county’s Meck-Link program helps connect people with mental health providers.
State policy shifted behavioral health services to the local level back in March.
