GASTON COUNTY — John Zizza, 43, led police on a chase after almost backing over an officer Thursday at the Home Depot on East Franklin Boulevard.
Medic responded to a call on a man who appeared to be slumped over in a car in the parking lot. When Zizza was approached, he nearly reversed over an officer and drove off.
Zizza led officers on a chase before eventually pulling over.
According to the police report, officers found two plastic bags with heroin residue inside, two hypodermic needles and an elastic tourniquet in the car.
Zizza was charged with felony aggravated assault, felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and other traffic violations.
Zizza’s bond was set at $111,000.
