ROSEBORO, NC — A Mexican drug cartel may be behind the kidnapping of a South Carolina man.  The FBI tracked that victim down and rescued him from his captors here in North Carolina.  Three men face federal kidnapping charges, and investigators say there could be more arrests in this case.

The FBI found the 23-year-old man chained and blindfolded inside a home in Roseboro on Tuesday. The victim’s fiance found his truck abandoned with the engine running on July 9 in St. Matthews, South Carolina.  A federal complaint filed Wednesday says he delivered drugs and owed a cartel in Mexico $200,000.

“Very early into the investigation, we immediately started getting calls originating out of Mexico that wanted demands and money demands for the release of our victim,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge David Thomas.

The victim told agents the men posed as police officers.  He had some minor injuries but is okay.
