ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Police have charged a man with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly hugging a toddler to death. Β
Investigators say 26-year-old Robert Kemp killed a 14-month-old child by hugging him so tight that the child could not breathe. Β
Medical examiners say the toddler, Jaylen Harris, died from asphyxiation. Β Kemp faces up to five years in prison. Β The charges were handed down more than a year since the child’s death. Β
Police aren’t saying what took so long for Kemp to be charged in the case. Β
