CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Instead of sitting around at home, some CMS students used out-of-class time this week to explore the arts and literacy.
LiterArtsy Camp is a partnership between Project L.I.F.T. and the Arts & Science Council. The kids, ages pre-K through 8th grade, have worked on writing, art work and performance art all week.
They also got the chance to meet with art professionals. Thursday, a group of 7th graders heard from a comic book artist. Thomasboro Academy teacher Stacie Bunn says, “They were just impressed with the fact that he could make so much money and do something he loved. And I think a lot of times, they hear about careers that are basic, but they don’t see the broad picture of other things they can do.”
Project Lift and Arts and Science Council leaders say exposure to the arts and literacy helps students learn critical thinking skills as well as creative problem solving skills.
