CHARLOTTE, NC – Police identify 19-year-old Jose Cuestas as the victim in a Sunset Boulevard shooting. Cuestas died in the hospital overnight. Witnesses say he was shot in the head outside a car at the Prime Time Car Wash Friday.
“Well I heard three shots. Soon as I came down the block, the man was laying on the ground,” says witness Fashon Ramsey. Ramsey says it happened as he was getting off a nearby bus. “It’s pointless. It’s just backwards,” he says.
Tonight, friends are leaving messages for Cuestas on Facebook. One reads “Wow I can’t believe this. You were so funny and had everyone laughing and you kept a smile on your face.” Another reads in part.. “I’m sorry you had to leave early.. (you’re) in a better place.”
Cuestas does have an arrest record though in Mecklenburg County. In 2013, he was charged with breaking and or entering, larceny, and possession of stolen goods.
Police say they believe the Cuestas and the suspect may have known each other.
