MATTHEWS, N.C. – A south Charlotte apartment complex caught on fire last night. Flames broke out a little after 8 p.m. Wednesday night at Matthews Crossing apartments. Residents were evacuated from units that were in danger. There was heavy black smoke and at one point, flames were visible from half a mile away. So far – no serious injuries reported – and no word yet on what started the fire. A fire department crew will stay on scene overnight to watch for any possible flare-ups.
