ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Police have charged a woman in the death of a high school student that was hit and killed by a vehicle early Thursday morning in Rowan County.
Detectives say 57-year-old Barbara Smith passed a stopped school bus and struck 17-year-old Makinzy Smith. The two are not related. The accident happened on Woodleaf Drive near Godbey Road.
Smith has been charged with felony passing a stopped school bus.
