CHARLOTTE, NC — Children may have been exposed to lead paint at a day care center in south Charlotte.

Some parents at the Childcare Network on Sharon Amity Road received a letter from the Health Department saying their kids should get a blood test to check for lead poisoning.  Inspectors say they found lead paint chipping under two rocking horses on the playground.

“It just depends on whether or not people are keeping their surfaces, their buildings in good repair or not,” said Stephen Graham of the Mecklenburg County Health Department.

The day care says workers removed the rocking horses.  Toxic lead paint is mostly found in buildings constructed before 1978.  Younger children are most at risk for lead poisoning.
