CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police identified a suspect accused of shooting at officers in east Charlotte Monday night. Β
Investigators say 27-year-old Stephon Caldwell fired shots at officers while they attempted to serve a warrant at his home on Rosecroft Drive. Β
CMPD Officer Christopher Leggett and Officer Robert Henderson both returned fire, striking Caldwell. Β No officers were injured during the shooting. Β
Caldwell is currently at Carolinas Medical Center being treated for non-life threatening wounds. Β Once he is released from the hospital he will be charged with three counts of assault on a government official with a firearm, shooting into an occupied property and possession of a firearm by a felon. Β
Both officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. Β
