NEW YORK (AP) β NASCAR chairman Brian France is not sure if Kyle Busch will be granted a waiver to be part of the championship chase when he returns from injury, but said yesterday the sanctioning body would like to “accommodate” him. Busch broke his right leg and left foot in a crash into a concrete wall in the Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β Michael Waltrip will drive the No. 55 Toyota in next week’s race at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. Waltrip, a two-time Daytona 500 winner, is co-owner of Michael Waltrip Racing and occasionally competes in the four restrictor-plate races on the NASCAR schedule.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) β A hydrogen-fueled vehicle will lead the field at a NASCAR race for the first time when a 2016 Toyota Mirai serves as the official pace car tomorrow night at Richmond. The midsize sedan uses no gasoline and emits only water vapor.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) β The New York Jets have exercised their fifth-year option for 2016 on outside linebacker Quinton Coples. Coples, the Jets’ first-round draft pick in 2012 out of North Carolina, had a career-high 6 1/2 sacks last season.
