RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Joey Logano has won the pole position for tonight NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Richmond International Raceway. The Daytona 500 winner turned a fast lap at 127.071 mph in the third round on the 0.75-mile oval yesterday night. He easily edged Denny Hamlin for the top spot.

(NO DATELINE) New Georgia coach Joni Crenshaw has hired Karen Lange from Charlotte as associate head coach. Lange spent four seasons as an assistant at Charlotte, the last two as associate head coach. She previously was an assistant at Virginia Tech for seven seasons and at Kansas for six seasons.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Quarterback Cam Newton says he’s healthy and “can’t wait” to participate in spring and summer workouts for the Carolina Panthers. Newton missed almost all of last year’s off season’s workouts following left ankle surgery in March of 2014.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — NASCAR has issued another warning to teams about the consequences of repeatedly failing inspections at the race track. In a bulletin sent to Sprint Cup teams before Richmond International Raceway opened for tonight’s race, NASCAR said it will begin issuing written warnings if a car fails two inspections before qualifying. A third inspection will lead to the loss of 15 minutes of practice time.
