Man Charged With Murder For Fatal North Charlotte Shooting Of 19-Year-Old

A man has been arrested for the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old found outside a north Charlotte apartment building near the UNC Charlotte campus in December.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department identified 21-year-old Eyzaah Ward as the suspect in the murder case of Quantae Young after a continued investigation. Arrest warrants were then issued for his arrest.

Ward was located Thursday and arrested through an increased effort between the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and The Gastonia Police Department.

Ward was interviewed by homicide detectives and has since been transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office where he has been charged with 1st degree murder, according to deputies.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating after a victim was shot and killed in north Charlotte near the UNC Charlotte campus early Monday.

Police officers responded near Gold Rush Boulevard, around 12:10 a.m., after reports of an assault with a deadly weapon call for service. Upon arrival, they located a victim with an apparent gunshot wound outside of the apartment building.

The victim, identified as 19-year-old Quantae Young, was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
