RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Persistent rain has forced NASCAR to postpone Saturday night’s race at Richmond International Raceway. NASCAR made the decision to call the event roughly one hour before the scheduled start. It’s the second consecutive week the Sprint Cup Series has been disrupted by weather. Joey Logano will start from the pole whenever NASCAR does race. It is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Sunday.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Richard Childress Racing says crew member Josh Wittman was released from the hospital Saturday, a night after he was injured in a pit-road fire during the Xfinity Series race at Richmond International Raceway. Wittman is the gas man for RCR driver Brendan Gaughan. Three pit road crew members were taken to a hospital Friday. Television replays showed a huge ball of flame that appeared to engulf at least one crew member in Gaughan’s pit.

(NO DATELINE) New Georgia coach Joni Crenshaw has hired Karen Lange from Charlotte as associate head coach. Lange spent four seasons as an assistant at Charlotte, the last two as associate head coach. She previously was an assistant at Virginia Tech for seven seasons and at Kansas for six seasons.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Quarterback Cam Newton says he’s healthy and “can’t wait” to participate in spring and summer workouts for the Carolina Panthers. Newton missed almost all of last year’s off season’s workouts following left ankle surgery in March of 2014.
