NEW YORK (AP) β€” Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany says he’s comfortable with the reality that at least one of the five power conferences will be left out of the four-team College Football Playoff each year.

His league was at risk of being shut out when the inaugural playoff field was announced Sunday. Ohio State wound up getting in, with the Big 12 stuck on the outside.

Delany says he and other leaders of the power conferences are committed to the math of four slots for five leagues.

He said Wednesday that if Ohio State hadn’t made it, “I would’ve been very disappointed, but we knew when we went into this that either one or two or possibly three conferences might not be involved.”
