Suspect Arrested After Hostage Situation At Belmont CVS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police arrested a man after a he took hostages inside a Belmont CVS and fired shots at officers. 

Investigators say they were called to the store on Wilkinson Boulevard early Friday morning and found 46-year-old Edward Russ armed with a SKS rifle. 

He is accused of firing several shots at officers.  After gunfire was exchanged between police and Russ, officers say they were informed about hostages inside the store.  Over the next two hours three hostages were released. 

Police were able to make contact with the gunman and he surrendered just before 7 a.m.  Russ will be charged with multiple felonies.
