Β CHARLOTTE, NC — Johnson C. Smith University is going tobacco-free. Β Tobacco and other smoking products, including e-cigarettes, will be banned from the west Charlotte campus as of January 1.
The University is starting an information campaign to help students and staff come to grips with the upcoming ban. Β “We’re trying to change the culture on campus,” said JCSU Wellness Director Victor Romano. Β “What we’re really trying to do is focus in on changing behavioral patterns, so it’s a volunteer enforcement.”
“If a ban is what it takes to get people to stop smoking, then that’s what needs to be in place,” said JCSU student Imani Scott.
JCSU already bans smoking inside all university buildings.
