CHARLOTTE, NC –People in Charlotte are trying to help the victims of the deadly earthquake in Nepal. Β The Greater Charlotte Nepalese Association hosted a prayer vigil Wednesday night in east Charlotte. Β They used candles to spell out the words “Pray for Nepal”.
The death toll from Saturday’s 7.8 magnitude earthquake has topped 5,000. Β Saujanya Aryal has family in Nepal. Β He says people there are desperate for food.
Β
“Since my parents actually traveled here three months ago, they now know how to store the food. Β In Nepal not all the households they store the food, they actually go buy groceries on a daily basis,” said Aryal.
A tiny miracle in all the devastation in Nepal: a baby boy found alive in the ruble of a destroyed building is in stable condition. Β Soldiers initially missed the baby, but later heard his faint cries. Β There’s no word on the baby’s parents.
