The Nubian Rootz City Wide Kwanzaa Celebration & African Marketplace

Don’t miss Charlotte-Mecklenburg County’s Largest Kwanzaa Celebration!! Join Nubian Rootz Cultural Center for their 16th Anniversary City Wide Kwanzaa Celebration & African Marketplace! Program begins at 1:00PM until 3:30PM Marketplace open from 12:00PM – 4PM Celebrate the Kwanzaa spirit of family, culture and community with Nubian Rootz Cultural Center, Charlotte’s oldest African heritage preservation project. Join Nubian Rootz in a festive celebration with rich African rhythms, dance, and guest speakers. Special guest performers include The Mc Crorey YMCA Senior African Drummers who will preside as the Council of Elders, the Warriors of The Males Place, and the Nubian Rootz Community Dancers and Drummers. The Kwanzaa program schedule is 1:00 – 3:30 PM hosted by Charlotte’s “First Lady of African Dance” Sister Gerry Chisolm. This year’s Kwanzaa theme is “Jamaa” Swahili meaning family and community. The celebration highlights the significance of supporting our women, the linkage between community and family, and honors Reggie Singleton, Executive Director of “The Males Place”, North Carolina’s leading grassroots mentoring program for young men 12 – 18 years of age. Nubian Rootz will present Reggie Singleton with the 2014 Kalonji Bartee Ujima Award for his outstanding community service. The African Marketplace features cultural arts and crafts, artists as well as community organizations and businesses. Open from 12 – 4 PM.
