CHARLOTTE, NC —Β May means motorsports in North Carolina, and that means big money for the Charlotte area. Β Governor Pat McCrory was at Charlotte Motor Speedway Friday to honor Motorsports Month.

The Governor helped paint the word “Charlotte” below the finish line to recognize the speedway’s impact on tourism, the economy and jobs across the region.

Β

“NASCAR is still so important to the North Carolina and Charlotte region and the economy… a lot of jobs are dependent upon it and it brings a lot of tourists to the state,” said Governor McCrory.

Β

Speedway officials say the month of May translates to an economic impact of $230 million and 4,200 new jobs.
