GASTON COUNTY, NC —Β Drama in court Friday during the trial of a former high school wrestling coach charged with sex crimes involving students. Β The judge lambasted an observer in the courtroom for making faces at the jury and posting about the trial on social media.
Gary “Scott” Goins took the stand Friday. Β He used to work at East Gaston High School and faces nearly two-dozen sex charges involving students. Β Goins described the “hazing” he says was a part of his upbringing.
“If you wanna be a part of things you’ve gotta earn your stripes. Β Now the other stuff the what’s been referred to as ‘choking out’ and these things is rough housing, is horseplay,” said Goins.
Goins’ wife Angela also took the stand. Β She answered questions about the night Goins was allegedly attacked and choked by a former student. Β Goins claims he doesn’t remember what happened.
