
ATLANTA, GA — Dr. Kent Brantly, infected with the deadly Ebola virus, arrived at the Emory University Hospital in an ambulance around 12:30 Saturday after he was flown back from Liberia.
Brantly contracted the virus while treating patients in Western Africa. The medical evacuation plane, equipped with a special containment, arrived at Dobbins Air Force in Atlanta just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Dr. Brantly will be placed in an isolation unit set up in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to treat patients who are exposed to certain serious infectious diseases.
Emory University Hospital says their nurses and staff are highly trained in the specific and unique protocols and procedures necessary to treat and care for a patient with Ebola.
The hospital says that Ebola does not pose a significant risk to the public.
Missionary with SIM in Charlotte, Nancy Writebol who is also infected with Ebola, is expected to arrive in Atlanta withing the next few days.
