CHARLOTTE, NC — A charter school in Charlotte is being forced to close due to money and management problems. Β Student First Academy only opened in August, and now will close April 15. Β That’s less than two months before the end of the school year. Β The decision was coordinated with state regulators. Β Nearly 300 students will be sent to different schools. Β
One parent tells WCCB she is frustrated, and not interested in sending her kids to CMS. Β “I really don’t want them in CMS,” said Jackie Davis, “because I worked there for 12 years, and I know the problems, what goes on in CMS.”
In a statement to WCCB, CMS says in part, “We welcome students who come to us from Student First Academy. Β Schools have plans in place to welcome students and get them enrolled as quickly as possible.”
