Frigid Nights Ahead

Average Temperatures Build In Midweek

A very cold night ahead with overnight lows in the low to mid 20s across the Piedmont. Only around 13 degrees in the mountains (feeling like single digits with the wind). A cold high pressure dominates our region through midweek bringing sunny skies and below average temperatures. A mainly dry cold front will swing through Thursday evening, but outside of added cloud cover, we are not expecting much from this. A stronger system will arrive on Saturday and this one will increase rain chances – possibly even snow chances across the WCCB Charlotte area. It is too soon for specifics, but we will keep you posted.

Tonight: Clear. Cold. Low: 25. Wind: NW 5-10.

Tuesday: Sunny. High: 44. Wind: N/NE 5.

Wednesday: Sunny. high: 50. Wind: SW 5-10.

Pets inside! Remember your 5 Ps of winter preparedness:
PROTECT PEOPLE – Pay careful attention to children and the elderly. Dress in multiple layers when you are outdoors, especially at night when temperatures are below freezing.

PROTECT PETS – Bring your pets inside! If it is too cold for you, it is too cold for them β€” especially with the cold, wet, and windy conditions. If your pet MUST absolutely be left outside, they should have shelter in a dry, warm place with their shelter facing AWAY from the wind.

PROTECT PLANTS – Cover them with blankets or bring them inside if you haven’t already.

PROTECT PIPES – Open cabinet doors to allow the warmth of your home to reach pipes under sinks and appliances near exterior walls. Open your faucets and allow a small stream of water to run at half the diameter of a pencil when temperatures drop into the 20s and teens.

PRACTICE FIRE SAFETY – Inspect all heating equipment before using. Check on your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Space heater safety:
– Follow the 3 foot rule. Everything (clothes, bed, shoes, etc.) should be kept 3 feet away from the space heater.
– Keep away from water.
– Plug it into a wall outlet, not an extension cord.
– Place the heater ONLY on the floor.
