ATLANTA, GA – The first Ebola patient in the United States arrived for treatment at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. WCCB was were there as an ambulance transported Dr. Kent Brantly.
Charlotte missionary Nancy Writebol is expected to arrive at early next week. The plane that brought Brantly from Liberia will now turn around and pick up Writebol.
The two contracted the deadly virus while working to treat those suffering from it in Africa.
Saturday, the delicate operation seemed to go as planned. The plane carrying Brantly from Liberia landed at Dobbins Air Force Base early Saturday afternoon, a 20 or 30 minute drive from Emory.
Brantly and later Writebol will be housed in a highly specialized isolation unit, one of only a few in the US.
Though there’s an Ebola outbreak in Africa, doctors say there is little risk for people living in the United States.
Writebol’s husband David will return to the US seperately in a few days to be near his wife.
