CHARLOTTE, NC — Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is on track to start against the Browns on Sunday. Head Coach Ron Rivera says barring any setbacks between now and then, Cam should take the field for the first time since his rollover accident last week.
Newton made it clear Thursday that he wants to play on Sunday, but if his body is not ready, then he will fully support backing up Derek Anderson again this weekend.
“I’m fine either way it goes,” he said. “I don’t want it to be a distraction. I don’t worry who’s gonna start as quarterback. I think we’re both ready.”
