CHARLOTTE, NC — It’s been more than a year since a pot of boiling water fell on top of a Charlotte girl.  She spent last Christmas at a burn center in Winston-Salem.

Friday, 6th-grader Shawntasia McGill got to meet the firefighters who helped save her life.  This time around, it was all smiles.  Shawntasia and her mom remember last Christmas Eve vividly, and say they’ve learned a lot since.

“Well, I was super shocked,” said Shawntasia.  “I was scared, but I was still being brave.”

“Teach your kids about the kitchen,” added her mother Crystal Sinclair.  “When a pot’s boiling or anything’s cooking in the oven, don’t play in the kitchen.  The kitchen is not a place to play.”

Shawntasia says she’s learned a lot since last Christmas Eve, and hopes other children hear her story and stay safe in the kitchen.
