Deputies: Man Fatally Shot By Police After Killing Brother-In-Law, Holding 2 Women Hostage

CALDWELL CO., N.C. — Deputies shot and killed a man in Caldwell County Friday night after he allegedly killed his brother-in-law and held two women hostage inside a home in Granite Falls.

Authorities say Caldwell County Deputies responded to the home on Terrapin Ridge Lane around 8:11 p.m. in response to an Unknown Trouble call.

Prior to police arriving at the scene, deputies say Troy Carter, 56, attacked his brother-in-law, Timothy Davis, 48.

Davis was found dead outside the home suffering from gunshot and stab wounds, according to a news release.

Deputies say when they arrived at the scene, they found Carter holding two woman hostage with a knife and gun in hand.

When Carter failed to obey verbal commands, deputies say they shot him and he died at the scene.

Deputies discovered Davis lying outside the home at this point. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two women were not injured in this incident.

Carter was previously wanted for two counts of Domestic Criminal Trespassing, one count of Injury to Real Property, and one count of Second Degree Arson for previous incidents that occurred on the property.

The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave as is customary.
