HELENA, Mont. (AP) β Best-selling author Jon Krakauer says rape is a serious crime that is not taken seriously, and he is calling on universities to step up their pursuit of rapists on campus.
Krakauer is the author of “Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town.”
Krakauer said before appearance his Wednesday night in Missoula that he wanted to give his critics a chance to confront him after they denounced his decision to focus on the city’s mishandling of rape reports.
Instead, he received a standing ovation.
Afterward, a heckler identifying himself as a Missoula attorney elbowed his way to the stage and yelled that Krakauer was a liar. The standing-room-only crowd shouted the man down as Krakauer spoke to him briefly before walking away.
