CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s deputy is expected to be okay following an accident in east Charlotte. The accident happened at 4:30 p.m. on Albemarle Road and E WT Harris Boulevard. Authorities say that a car attempting to veer over came close to striking Deputy Billy Allen who was riding a motorcycle. The deputy put on his blue lights and proceeded to pull 47-year-old Danny Lehman over. The car reversed and hit the deputy before it took off. The deputy fired three shots hitting the vehicle windows, but Lehman drove off from the scene.
Deputy Allen was transported to Novant Presbyterian Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Lehman was found a short time later on Farm Pond Lane by officers who witnessed the accident. He was taken into custody by Sheriff’s Office deputies who transported him to the hospital for a blood alcohol test.
Deputy Allen, is a 13-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office and has been a motor officer since 2007.
