CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The end has come for Blockbuster Video stores and the company’s last rental came with an ironic twist. Blockbuster tweeted a picture of it’s last rental…the comedy movie “This is the End.” The transaction took place on November 11th at 9pm in Hawaii.
The final transaction comes as Dish Network shuts down the remaining 300 stores Blockbuster operates. They will begin liquidating its current assets this week.
About 50 licensed Blockbuster stores not owned by Dish will remain open after Dish shutters its company-run stores by mid-January.
