CHARLOTTE, NC — On Veterans Day Americans remember the men and women who gave their time and lives to fight for our country.  Schools, banks, even courthouses close, and it is a time in which we are all encouraged to reflect.

It was an emotional day for veterans and their families at Central Piedmont Community College.  Student veterans placed six thousands flags on the center lawn.  Each one represents an American service member killed since 9/11.  The Charlotte Fire Department also hoisted a flag above the ceremony.

“It means that this country is still great, and we have some strong support,” says retired Marine Corps Sergeant Christopher Bowins. “Especially to come out on such a chilly day, and they didn’t have to.”

Students also wrote messages on a huge banner for active military.  The college plans to send the poster overseas.
