Suspect Dies After Stand-Off in North Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C (AP) —  A suspect who was in a weekend stand-off with the SWAT Team has died.

CMPD officers responded to the 5100 block of Reagan Drive Saturday night and found a vehicle in the parking lot at the America’s Best Hotel that was wanted in connection with a death investigation out of Greenville, South Carolina.

Officers determined that someone wanted for questioning was inside a motel room and evacuated nearby rooms. Members of the SWAT Team and negotiators also responded to the scene and set up a perimeter.

Officers closed the ramp from northbound I-85 to W. Sugar Creek Road, as well as nearby streets as a precaution.

Around 11:00a.m. members of the SWAT Team heard a gunshot from inside the motel room. Once entry was made into the room, they located Damien Williams suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No one else was injured during this incident and no CMPD officers shot their weapon
