LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) β€” Rory McIlroy won his second straight major championship and fourth of his young career, rallying on the back nine in the PGA Championship. The 25-year-old McIlroy shot a final-round 3-under 68, going five under par during his final 12 holes, in beating Phil Mickelson by one stroke.

ATLANTA (AP) β€” The Atlanta Braves closed within three and a-half games of NL East leader Washington by beating the Nationals 3-1 last night to take two of three from the division leader. Justin Upton homered and Alex Wood, the Braves 23-year-old lefty, allowed one run over his seven and a-third innings and combined with two relievers on a five-hitter.

MILWAUKEE (AP) β€”L.A. Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw moved into a tie for victories by improving to 14-2 in pitching the Dodgers past the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1. Kershaw limited the Brewers to six hits over eight innings and lowered his league-leading ERA to 1.78.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) β€” They didn’t get much rest but the Boston Red Sox beat the L.A. Angels 3-1 yesterday just 12 hours after finishing up an epic 19-inning game Saturday night. In that game, Albert Pujols (POO’-hohlz) homered to end a 6-1/2-hour marathon with a 5-4 victory.

UNDATED (AP) β€” Kevin Ward Jr.’s family says it “appreciates all the prayer and support” but that the family “would like time to grieve” a day after Ward was killed on a racetrack when he was hit by a car driven by NASCAR star Tony Stewart. Stewart sat out Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen that was won by AJ Allmendinger.
