CHARLOTTE, NC — Students and LGBT activists protested outside CPCC in Elizabeth Friday.  They want the college to adopt a stronger non-discrimination policy after a transgender student says she was harassed for using the bathroom.  Andraya Williams says officers asked her if she was a man or a woman, then escorted her off campus.  Students from other colleges showed up to extend their support.

“You are not doing your job to create an environment that is conducive to learning.  You are not doing your job to create an environment that is fair, safe, humane, and respectful, and you fail your students,” said UNC Charlotte student Gordie Matlock.

CPCC says its discrimination policies are compliant with current laws.  William’s attorney tells WCCB they are considering filing a complaint with the Board of Education’s Office of Civil Rights.
