CHARLOTTE, NC — Monday, residents in Mecklenburg County had their first chance to give input on a proposed smoking ban.  The Health Director wants to ban smoking outside all government buildings in Mecklenburg County and the use of tobacco at county parks.

Because North Carolina considers electronic cigarettes a tobacco product, they would also be banned.  Some residents feel e-cigarettes should still be allowed.

“You’re telling people, ‘Hey this is bad, you shouldn’t use it to quit smoking,’ and it sends people back to cigarettes,” said Charlotte resident Jonathan Burger.

County commissioners are holding a public hearing on the ban at the government center on September second.
