CANANDIAGUA, NY — Investigators are pouring over amateur video of a deadly dirt-track race involving Tony Stewart.  20-year-old Kevin Ward, Jr. died in Saturday night’s crash in upstate New York.

The case is still open, but police say there are no signs of criminal intent from Stewart.  Ward got out of his car to confront Stewart and was hit in front of fans.

Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield talked to WCCB Charlotte Monday night about calls for drivers to be banned from exiting their vehicles.

“It’s happened for years.  You know, I don’t know what kinda rule they’d be on that.  I guess they could say you stay in your car, but if the car’s on fire you gotta get out too.  So there’s a lot of other reasons why you gotta bail out of your car, you know,” said Mayfield.

There’s no word when Stewart will return to racing.  Stewart released a statement over the weekend saying there aren’t words to describe the sadness he feels.
