CHARLOTTE, NC — Some people may find this video disturbing. A local teen is recovering after setting himself on fire for a Facebook prank. Charlotte’s Fire Marshal is warning parents to make sure kids know the dangers.
The prank starts with a teen in west Charlotte pouring nail polish remover all over his body. He flicked the lighter and the vapors immediately burst into flames. The teen has minor burns on his neck and chest. The Fire Marshal says igniting flammable liquids can burn your skin and lungs.
‘If it’s on the person, if it’s on their clothes, if it’s permeated their skin that materials got to burn away, and in the same instance the skin also burns away,” said Charlotte Fire Marshal Deputy Chief Rob Kinniburgh.
The teen’s mother, Janie Talley, is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Investigators say she recorded the dangerous fire prank last month.
