18-Year-Old Charged With Possession Of Weapon On School Property In Iredell County

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. —  An 18-year-old Mooresville student has been charged with having a weapon on school property Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.

An investigation was sparked around 8:10 a.m. after the Iredell County Emergency Communications Center received a call about a silver Toyota truck, with two young males on Highway 150 near Mooresville, and one of the males in the truck was waiving a gun at the caller.

The caller advised that the suspect truck appeared to be traveling towards Lake Norman High School and the School Resource Officer was notified. Soon after the officer observed the suspect truck as it pulled onto the campus of Lake Norman High School.

A traffic stop was conducted on the truck and the driver was identified as 18-year-old Ethan Goodman. The passenger in the truck was identified as a juvenile.

After a continued investigation, authorities determined a road rage incident had occurred between the caller, and the suspect vehicle on Highway 150. During the incident, Goodman displayed what appeared to be a firearm, later determined to be an Air Soft Pistol, to the other driver, according to a news release.

Goodman, was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon on school property, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Lake Norman High School Administration was made aware of the incident, as well, and will be following their policy on disciplinary procedures related to this event.
