
LENOIR, N.C. — An Educational Ranger with the North Carolina Forest Service has died.
According to a release from the department, 31-year-old Jimmy Halliburton, and other staff members were attempting to use a tractor to remove a fallen tree from a roadway at Tuttle Educational State Forest.Officials say the tree struck Halliburton in the torso, killing him on impact.
A resident of Morganton, Halliburton had worked for the Forest Service since November 2003 and at Tuttle since September 2007.
Tuttle Educational State Forest will remain closed until August 19.
