Remember the movie Where the Heart Is? Β It’s the story of the pregnant teen who’s abandoned at a Walmart, then gives birth. Β Well it’s happened again… almost. Β There’s just a few differences.
This time, the story is in Texas, and it’s a 14-year-old boy. Β Dude was having beef with his family, so he ran away from home, and into the Walmart. Β He actually set up camp, making a fort with some of the displays on the floor. Β He was snatching all the food he needed, changing clothes every few hours to avoid suspicion, even using diapers so he wouldn’t get caught in the bathroom. Β Sweet setup! Β And he kept it going for 4 days! Β The only reason they caught him was because he started leaving out too much trash.
We had a similar situation here in Charlotte a few years ago: remember the guy living at a Toys R’ Us? Β He’d actually found a spot inside the wall of the old toy store when it was on Independence Boulevard. Β The guy was there for months, with a pretty comfortable set-up.
Of course, there’s not much to keep a grown up going at a Walmart, except some candy and soda. Β But there are plenty of stores you actually could live… or might just like to live. Β Our Man on the Edge, Robert Wilder, would set up camp in Ikea horse meat Swedish meatballs, but what about you guys?
