LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Troopers say a 44-year-old man died and another woman was injured Thursday afternoon following a collision at an intersection in Lincoln County.
Troopers responded to the crash on Cat Square Road, at the intersection of Reepsville Road, around 5 p.m.
Initial investigation reveals a 2003 Lincoln Aviator, driven by Marcia Castro Montoya, 43, of Charlotte, was traveling west on Reepsville Road, at the same time as a 2005 Honda Civic, driven by Alejandro Sanchez, 44, of Lincolnton, was heading south on Cat Square Road.
Troopers say at the intersection, the Lincoln failed to stop for a stop sign and collided into the Honda.
This caused the Honda to be pushed off the road and to fall into an embankment, according to a news release.
Troopers say the driver of the Honda, Sanchez, died at the scene and the driver of the Lincoln, Montoya, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The intersection was closed for almost two hours as troopers conducted their on-scene investigation.
The investigation into this crash is ongoing and charges are pending.
