Both teams play today in Pool A, with Florida State facing North Carolina and Clemson facing Louisville.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) β Clemson has added receiver Denzel Johnson to its football signees for next season. Johnson could not sign earlier because of academic concerns. But Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said yesterday that Johnson signed scholarship papers and is expected to report to campus this summer.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β The Carolina Panthers have released injury-plagued guard Edmund Kugbila, a former fourth-round draft pick who never played in a game for the team. Kugbila was a surprise selection out of Valdosta State in 2013 and Carolina hoped he could step in right away and start. But he could hardly get on the practice field due to injuries.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β Speedway Motorsports executive chairman Bruton Smith and two-time Sprint Cup champion Terry Labonte headed up the newest group of five headed to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The others selected to the hall’s seventh class were drivers NASCAR drivers Curtis Turner and Bobby Isaac. Modified series champion Jerry Cook was the final pick.
