Winter Weather Advisory Extended Due to Freezing Rain

Ongoing freezing rain will continue to make travel difficult for areas north of I-4o through Monday morning. Winter Weather Advisories have been extended until noon for areas north of I-40 and through 1pm for the Mountains.

Winter Weather Alerts

Most areas have accumulated less than .05″ of ice, but even a glaze of ice makes travel slick especially for elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses.

Ice Totals

More than 20 cars were involved in an accident on 421 near the Parkway bridge on the Watauga and Wilkes county line according to Deep Gap Fire Department.

A low off the Carolina coast will track north through the day today. Any remaining freezing rain will turn to a cold rain by midday as temps warm above freezing. Rain will taper off by late afternoon. Temps will fall below freezing tonight, with black ice possible once again Tuesday morning for anything that doesn’t dry Monday.
