Divers Recover Body of Missing Swimmer At Latta Plantation

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Dive team members have recovered the body of a missing swimmer. 

The Charlotte Fire Department’s Dive Team and several other fire agencies were called to Mountain Island Lake around 2:40 p.m. Initial reports indicated someone was struggling in the water and needed assistance. When crews arrived, they rescued two children but were unable to locate a third person. 

The search later turned to a recovery effort.

Just after 6 p.m., officials confirmed that the body of the missing swimmer was found. Authorities tell WCCB Charlotte, the victim was trying to swim to shore but never made it. We are working to confirm the name of the person and will release more information as it becomes available.
