CMPD: Arrest Warrants Issued After Deadly Collision On Brookshire Boulevard

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives have obtained arrest warrants for a man involved in a deadly crash on Brookshire Boulevard earlier this week.

Donald Davis is wanted for Involuntary Manslaughter and Reckless Driving for his alleged involvement in the following incident, according to police.

On February 14th around 6 a.m., officers were dispatched to Brookshire Boulevard in reference to a two-vehicle collision.

At the scene, officers located a white 2021 Toyota Corolla with heavy front-end damage and a silver 2001 Toyota Tacoma with heavy right-side damage.

The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded.

Police say the driver of the Corolla, Donald Davis, 26, was still in the car when officers arrived, and was transported a short time later to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Tacoma, Curtis Mundy, 61, was found ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release.

Detectives say initial investigation reveals that the Tacoma was traveling south on Brookshire Boulevard in the left turning lane.

As the Tacoma attempted to turn left onto Pleasant Grove Road, police say the Corolla, which was traveling north, did not have time to stop to avoid the collision.

Detectives say the front-end of the Corolla struck the passenger side of the Tacoma, causing both cars to come to their final resting place in the grass on the side of Brookshire.

Evidence indicates that Mundy ran a red light while turning left, which caused the collision.

Police say although the airbags deployed, Mundy was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the car.

Failure to stop for a red light is a contributing factor in this collision for the Tacoma, and speed is a contributing factor for the Corolla, according to a news release.

Detectives also found open containers of alcohol inside the Tacoma and impairment is suspected for Mundy.

The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing.
