Police: Lenoir Man Arrested After Using Lighter, Can Of De-Icer In Attempted Robbery Of Convenience Store

LENOIR, N.C. — A 29-year-old man has been arrested after using a lighter and a can of de-icer in an attempt to rob a convenience store in Lenoir Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The Lenoir Police Department were dispatched to Ross and Company convenience store, located at Harper Avenue, around 12:45 p.m. after receiving an attempted armed robbery call for service.

Police were informed that the suspect approached the cash register in the store with a cigarette lighter and a can of spray de-icer. The suspect then handed the cashier a note demanding money. When the cashier refused to give the suspect any money, he sprayed the de-icer and ignited it with the cigarette lighter causing a small fire near the cash register, according to police.

The fire was extinguished and no one was injured.

The suspect, later identified by police as Logan Jones, fled the scene, traveling on Abington Road in a Ford Focus. The suspect vehicle was found soon after by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office at Hilltop Mart, located on Abington Road.

Jones was located by deputies at his Fred Watson Place residence in Lenoir.

According to police, Jones was arrested and charged with one felony count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and one felony count of burning certain buildings. In addition, Jones already had an outstanding warrant for one felony count of accessory before the fact to a felony, authorities said.
