Charlotte broke two records on Thursday as temperatures soared into the 80s.
Record 1: On March 3rd, 2022 Charlotte set a new record high temperature of 85 degrees. The previous record for the date, March 3rd, was set in 1974 when we reached 84 degrees.
Record 2: 85 degrees is the warmest temperature to occur this early in a calendar year. The previous recordΒ was March 7th, 1974 when the high was 85 degrees.
Since 1990, our average first 85 degree day is not until April 14th.
What does this mean for the rest of winter? Nothing. We will still see dramatic temperature swings as we usually do late winter into early spring.
