CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new festival celebrating local and international arts is coming to the heart of Uptown Charlotte this fall.

Presented by Blumenthal Performing Arts, the Charlotte International Arts Festival will be held from September 16th through October 2nd, bringing exceptional artists and entertainers from around the world to the Queen City.

“Now is the perfect time to launch a new festival to celebrate creativity, cultural traditions, and community,” said Blumenthal President and CEO, Tom Gabbard. “The arts foster greater understanding and respect for each other.”

Currently, Blumenthal staff is actively working to invite artists from countries such as Italy, Belgium, the U.K., France, Canada, as well as local artists and performers from cities across the U.S., to take part in the festival.

Officials say Uptown will be transformed during the 17-day festival, with live entertainment and an array of family-friendly activities to be found around every corner.

In a press release, officials say “The Queen City will bustle with live performances, conversations with thought leaders, immersive art installations, and an abundance of inspired creations with a focus on the visual and performing arts—all in celebration of creativity, innovation, and community.”

Beginning with the Charlotte Jazz Festival, Blumenthal Performing Arts has been building its capacity and experience with festivals in recent years.

Officials say in 2019, Blumenthal assisted in relaunching Charlotte Shout! along with the festival’s co-producer, Charlotte Center City Partners.

Gabbard says “Charlotte is fortunate to have many different festivals throughout the year. The launch of this new festival aims uniquely to expand the artistic identity of Charlotte and celebrate the best from around the world and around the corner in arts and creativity.”

Officials say most of the festival events this fall will be free and take place in Center City Charlotte, so that it’s a pedestrian-friendly experience.
