LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Troopers are investigating a fatal collision in Lincoln County after a driver was killed when a tractor-trailer collided with his van early Thursday morning.
Around 5 a.m., troopers responded to the collision on US Highway 321 South near mile-marker 26.
Initial investigation reveals a 2011 Ford Econoline van was stopped in the right lane of US 311 South when a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer, heading south, collided with the van.
Troopers say the Ford driver, Anthony Valverde, 23, of Fort Mill, S.C. died at the scene due to injuries received in the crash.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Johnny Sain, 63, of Hendersonville was not injured, according to a news release.
Trooper say US 321 South closed for three hours as detectives investigated.
The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing.
